No one would probably guess I’m a transplant patient. I am a physical therapist assistant and personal trainer.

I was born with a condition called Hypoplastic Kidney Disease. After waiting for two years on the organ transplant list, I received my new kidney in the summer of 1987. I was 14.

I remember the day well. My family and I were in Syracuse, NY, visiting my brother who was competing in the Empire State Soccer Games. We got the call that there was a donor. Luckily, a stranger on campus knew someone with a private plane and my family flew back to Teterboro, NJ where a car was waiting to take me to the Manhattan hospital.

I'm now 37. Living in Nassau County, my wife Kirsty and I are so fortunate to have a beautiful little girl. The picture shows me having lots of fun with her! No one would probably guess I’m a transplant patient. I am a physical therapist assistant and personal trainer. I also enjoy bodybuilding, traveling and cars. That’s all because of the generosity and compassion of an anonymous deceased donor those many, many years ago. -- John
